To further support our members, we offer a variety of events throughout the year for professional development and networking. We are also pleased to offer our members special admission and discounted fees to our events.

NYSOEA appreciates and understands the passion and interest with which our membership and visitors support the cause of outdoor education. To support their interest, NYSOEA wishes to keep its membership and visitors updated on the exciting new events beyond its own events and affiliate events.

Annual Conference
The signature event for NYSOEA is our annual fall conference. Attended by educators, managers, directors, and staff of organizations from across the state and nation, the conference is an excellent opportunity for networking, attending workshops, participating in outdoor activities, and supporting outdoor education in New York State. As conference locations rotate throughout the five regions (Eastern, Metro, Northern, Western, and Central), it also provides a great way to learn about various parts of the state.

Winter Weekend
Usually held in February in the Eastern or Metro Region, Winter Weekend is an opportunity for learning, networking, and celebrating the outdoors in the season of snow. Activities include outdoor environmental education (including animal tracking and winter tree identification), a trade blanket, broomball on the ice (weather permitting), and indoor crafting. |
Maple Celebration
Every March at the Fresh Air Fund's Sharpe Reservation (Fishkill, NY), the Maple Celebration provides an opportunity to learn more about the NYS tree, the Sugar Maple. Expect tapping demonstrations, syrup samplings, and other tree-rific activities. Waffles sold at this event support the Brother Yusuf Scholarship Fund. |
Environmental Educator Activity Exchange
This generally takes place in February in the Western Region, where educators gather, network, and exchange activities and lesson plans.

Regional EE Week Events
Each region hosts at least one event in mid- to late April to coincide with Earth Day and/or National Environmental Education Week. Activities include hikes, cleanups, restoration projects, etc.

Other Regional Events
Sometimes, smaller networking events are held within a region -- such as a hike, meet-and-greet, or potluck. Recent examples include a Sunday afternoon hike followed by a visit to a local brewery, "First Day" hikes on January 1, and an interpretive walk around John Burroughs' "Slabsides" property.
There is also the opportunity for virtual gatherings and sharing through outlets such as the NYSOEA Book Club, which allows participation through Facebook and conference calls as well as in-person meetings.
