My name is Brianna Vivace! I am proudly from Poughkeepsie, studying Environmental Science and Musical Theater at Dutchess Community College. I intend to work for a Masters in Urban Environmental Science and eventually station my research in New York City. My scientific knowledge this far has rooted from all of the opportunities my community has shown me, so I thank NYSOEA for supporting the next generation of Environmental Science!
My name is Jessy J. Alvarez Bautista. I am a junior attending Marist University. I am working toward a B.S, double-majoring in Environmental Science and Biology. I plan to earn a PhD in either mycology or agriculture. I hope to work in agricultural districts to develop new practices that help alleviate environmental stress through changing cropping methods and animal feed through biocontrol applications. I am planning to study in Thailand this fall to continue my research and studies.
Victoria Charles I am a senior at Queens College, majoring in Environmental Studies with a minor in Legal Studies, and will graduate in Spring 2026. Growing up in New York City made me aware of how unequal access to clean air, safe green spaces, and healthy shorelines can be, and that shaped my path as an environmentalist. I’m especially passionate about shoreline protection and climate justice, and I want to use policy to expand access to nature and improve environmental health in communities that are often overlooked. After graduation, I plan to pursue a Master of Science in Environmental Policy.
2024 NYSOEA Environmental Scholarship Recipient:
I am currently in my last semester of undergraduate studies at Niagara University, set to graduate with a Bachelors in Environmental Science this May. I am in the process of wrapping up my honors thesis project, which is studying the effects of habitat fragmentation on the allelic diversity of Eastern redback salamander (Plethodon cinereus) populations along the Niagara Gorge region. Additionally, I am also pursuing a graduate education after my undergrad career is complete. I have been applying to several Ph.D. programs related to mammalian research and conservation -- fingers crossed!
