Stony Kill Farm Offers Outdoor Nature Programs
Discover the colors of nature at Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education
Center this August. Whether you're interested in birds, blooms or splashing
in our pond, these programs are sure to be crowd pleasers. Bring a picnic
lunch and stay after the program to enjoy the beauty of Stony Kill for
the entire day.

Insects Abound at Stony Kill Farm's
Annual Butterfly Festival
Butterflies, caterpillars and chrysalises will be the focus of the day
at Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center's annual Butterfly
Festival on Saturday, August 2 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
A screen tent will temporarily house live butterflies for the day.
Families can take turns in the tent and get close to monarchs, eastern
tiger swallowtails, caterpillars and moths. Other activities include
butterfly crafts, storytelling, games and being "transformed"
into
an insect. Come experience the fun. Maybe a butterfly will walk on

and fields through games, crafts and scavenger hunts. For all ages, with

Amazing Insects - Saturday, July 12 at 10:00 AM
Sweep-net the grass, roll a log over and use a magnifying glass to get
a
close-up look at some of the insects that inhabit our woods and meadows.
Make your own insect, and learn some fascinating facts about
the
most numerous and diverse creatures on the planet.
Birds of the Grasslands - Saturday, July 19 at 10:00 AM Bluebirds,
bobolinks, meadow larks and savannah sparrows are a few of the birds we
hope to spot as we walk the edges of our fields at Stony Kill. Bring
binoculars if you have them.
Family Fun with the Wind and the Sun - Saturday, July 26 at 10:00 AM
Cook in a solar oven, make a wind craft and discover the power of
alternative energy sources. For ages 5 and up, with adult.

Stony Kill Farm Summer Day Camp
July 8 - August 22
Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center is still taking
registrations for its popular "Summer Explorers" Nature Day
Camp for
children 5 -10 years old. Summer Explorers sessions run from Tuesday
through Friday each week, beginning July 8 and ending August 22. Summer
Explorers is fun and hands-on, giving children a chance to explore the
natural world and learn where their food comes from by participating in
outdoor activities. Activities led by trained environmental educators
include grinding corn, planting and tending a pizza garden, getting to
know the farm animals, sweepnetting the meadow for insects, sampling
pond life, and searching for signs of wildlife in the forest. Snacks
are provided each day, and special campfire programs are held each month
to bring campers and their parents from different sessions together.
Summer Explorers in July is for children entering grades 1 or 2
next fall. August sessions are for children entering grades 3-5. The
cost per session is $55/child, $40 for members of the Stony Kill
Foundation, a not-for-profit citizen's group that supports Stony Kill's
educational activities. The$40 rate is also offered to those registering
