Project Webfoot Educator Workshop

This will be a six-hour professional development workshop for formal,
non-formal and pre-service teachers. All participants will receive the
Project Webfoot Kit and a classroom sponsorship. New York will be
credited with "Webfoot Greenwings" equal to the number of students in
each teacher's class after we receive their post-workshop paperwork.

AUGUST ACTIVITIES AT ROGERS

Have you been thinking of heading to Rogers Center to attend a program,
but haven't? Now is the time. You can learn about things that are small
or large, terrestrial or aquatic, at your feet or in the sky. Check out
the August programs. There is something for everyone.

August 2

8:30 AM to Noon PADDLE NINEMILE SWAMP
This slow-moving river is a gem. It has an assortment of summer flowers
and birds to enjoy and a fascinating cultural history. Registration is
required. $5.00 non-refundable fee per paddler using our equipment. Meet
in the Rogers Center main parking lot.

8:30 PM NIGHT SKY
Have you looked up at the night sky and its abundance of stars and
wondered how to find constellations and where to look for shooting
stars? Join us for a tour of the night sky. David Terrazas of the
Central New York Astronomy Club will have some large telescopes for
exciting viewing. Bring binoculars if you have them. Rain or clear!

HIKE AT PARADISE HILL
This section of trail near DeRuyter offers woodland scenery, field
edges, stone walls and a chance to stretch your legs. Meet in Rogers
Center*s main parking lot to carpool. Please call to register.

10:00 AM Children*s Program: BUG BONANZA
The warm days of summer are prime time for finding insects and spiders.
Kids can make their own bug collecting container and then catch some
creatures for observation with Rogers staff. Please call to register.

11:00 AM WHITE-TAILED DEER IN NEW YORK
You see them in fields and find signs of them in the forest. You may
even have them munching on plants in your yard. What is the deal with
deer in NY? Find out more about deer biology and population status.

10:00 AM GORGE EXPLORATION
Explore Sherburne*s Rexford Falls and learn about gorge geology and
ecology by taking a look at plants, fossils, micro-climates and the
power of water. Some steep trail sections. Sturdy footwear required.

SEPTEMBER ACTIVITIES AT ROGERS

Fall is on the way, but the weather is still great for getting outdoors.
Explore the local area with Rogers Center staff in September. Programs
include canoeing, trail walks, and biking. Check it out!

Paddle around this sizable body of water near Hamilton, rich in plant
and animal life. Registration required. $5.00 non-refundable fee per

9:00 AM to Noon PHARSALIA*10 YEARS LATER
Ten years after a tornado ripped through this site in 1998, there are
still signs left behind by its passing. See how the forest is healing
the scar and compare it to past years. Wear sturdy pants for protection
against brushy/prickly undergrowth. Please call to register and for trip

Take out your mountain bike and explore the enjoyable trails of
Brookfield state land: 130 miles of trail on hilly terrain in beautiful

Explore Cush Hill*s wide variety of autumn flowers as we walk the trails
and field edges for some blooming beauties. Meet in the main parking
lot.

Rogers Center is operated by the NYS Department of Environmental
Conservation. The not-for-profit Friends of Rogers, Inc. helps support
the Center's programs and special events. Rogers Center is located one
mile west of Sherburne on Route 80. It is 45 minutes south of Utica
via Route 12, one hour north of Binghamton via Route 12, and 75 minutes
southeast of Syracuse via Routes 20 east and 12 south. The Visitor
Center and grounds are open year round to the public, and admission is
